The Amazing Power of Uniqueness
Everybody is different. We all think, talk, learn, pray, and live differently than others. While many think it’s important to fit in with “the crowd”, it’s not as great as it may seem. Think about it; if all of your friends lived the same lives as you did, wouldn’t you get bored with them? The best part about friendship is everyone thinks differently. They all contribute something special to the table, just like you. We all follow our own unique culture. Everyone has their own dreams and their own ways of pursuing them. Show off that funky style of yours! Listen to music your friends aren’t crazy about. Try new foods. Practice a new religion. Do what makes your soul happy. You’re in control of your life. Live it to the fullest! Why should you waste your time trying to keep up with new trends when you’d rather make your own?
Stop Worrying About What People Think of You
If you’re under the impression that someone doesn’t like you for you, that’s perfectly okay. It’s not your fault they can’t see all the wonderful things about you! You should never feel like you have to change who you are in order to fit into a crowd. Understand that you’ll never be happy with yourself if you constantly compare yourself to others, and try to please everyone you meet. Why do we constantly waste our time on energy on trying to be someone we aren’t, just to please people? In a quote by Martha Graham, she states: People go their whole lives trying to be someone else. That’s what Martha means when she says, “it… will be lost.” Those people who live as if they are someone they’re not will lose their true selves, never to be found again. Start now, before it’s too late! Be your own inspiration!
Embrace Your Uniqueness
Each and every one of us is born with unique traits and characteristics that help us shine and find our true calling. Learning to love ourselves for who/what we are is a big challenge, and when people persistently avoid us for being ourselves, it makes it that much harder to embrace our uniqueness. I implore you to continue being the best version of yourself you can possibly be. Who knows, you might inspire somebody else to embrace themselves! After all, having one or two good friends that adore you for who you are is much better than having ten or eleven friends who like who you pretend to be. You already know you’re unique. You’ve always known. You are an amazing, rad, totally stellar person! Everyone has their quirks; some are good, some are not so good. If you embrace yourself for the good and the bad, you can become an even more likeable person. Don’t go with the crowd! It’s the path less-traveled by where all the hidden treasures lie.
